Website

Michoacán is one of the most beautiful regions in the world, known since 2000 as “The Soul of Mexico.”

Michoacán is located in the central-western part of Mexico. The state's largest cities are Morelia (the state capital), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Pátzcuaro, and Uruapan. These cities are connected to the rest of the world thanks to an extensive communications infrastructure (airports, ground transportation, and inbound tour operators), making it easy to reach from anywhere in the world.

It is one of the states richest in lakes, forests, and other natural beauty, for example, the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries, the Paricutín Volcano, Eduardo Ruíz National Park, Camécuaro Lake National Park, as well as the lakes of Pátzcuaro, Zirahuén, and Chapala, which receive a notable migration of pelicans traveling from the northern hemisphere during the winter; and the Beaches of Michoacán, where three species of turtles arrive to lay their eggs: leatherback, olive ridley, and black.

The true Mexico, with its colors, flavors, traditions, and customs, can be found in the state's diverse regions, along the Don Vasco Route, in our 10 Magical Towns: Pátzcuaro, Tzintzuntzan, Santa Clara del Cobre, Tacámbaro, Paracho, Tlalpujahua, Angangueo, Cuitzeo, Jiquilpan, and Cotija, as well as in viceregal cities like Morelia and Zamora.

Michoacán is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the Historic Center of Morelia, Traditional Mexican Cuisine, the Michoacán Paradigm, the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuaries, Pirekua, the Purépecha people's songs, the Night of the Dead celebration, and the Voladores de San Pedro Tarímbaro in Tlalpujahua.

Michoacán may be the country's leading producer of handicrafts, so visiting artisans is another way to get to know the state. You can also sample traditional cuisine, witness the Night of the Dead, Holy Week customs, Palm Sunday in Uruapan, or any of the other traditions and fairs that abound in the festival calendar, and learn about the history of this town.

For this and more, welcome to Michoacán!
